I set out to travel to the ends of the world. My friends joined me, but they soon turned back for it was an arduous journey. On the final road stood a sign compelling me to stop. I continued anyway. Around the bend, a wizened old man sat beside the road.
“You have a choice,” he said. “Return to any point in your life and live from then onwards or continue your journey as it has been, unchanged.”
Moments of regret, pain, and joy flashed before my eyes as if on a movie reel.
“Choose!” the old man said.

“Friday Fictioneers” is a weekly challenge by Rochelle Wisoff Fields. The challenge is to write a story, using only 100 words, in response to a photo prompt. It has been a lot of fun to join in with this fantastic and encouraging group of writers! This week’s beautiful photo was taken by Bjorn Rudberg. If you would like to read other stories, click HERE.
Indeed a lesson and thrilling post

Oh boy, not a choice I’d like to have to make. For most I suspect the temptation to go back would be too great…

For sure, but it’s complicated. Would I be able to change anything or would I really want to because if I did what would that change down the road? =) Thanks for commenting!

Tough choice, but then regrets and choices are what make us who we are. Well done.

Such an imaginative idea. It would take more than a few moments to make that choice. Well done.

For sure! It is interesting to ponder, the decisions we have made and how our lives would be changed if we were to have chosen another way. =)

Dear Brenda,
Life is full of choices, isn’t it? Well done. Given this choice, I wonder where I would go back to. For as much as we say, “If I had it to do over again…,” should we? Well done.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Thanks so much, Rochelle! I don’t know either, it’s interesting to ponder though. It is a good question … “should we?” =)

Wow, Brenda. I seriously wonder what I would choose.
I can’t even imagine not living through some of the things I have.
Excellent piece, here.

I agree. Even the difficult bits of life which at times I’ve wished to avoid, in the end, I might not want to because of the ultimate outcome. It’s tricky. If I could choose to do something over, would it lead to where I am today, having learned what I’ve learned and with the people I love around me? Hmmm….

Oh yes … the choices in life that people really want but probably shouldn’t take because it would be more difficult.

I love this… leaving me with that question. I think it should learn us not trying to change anything, but for many it would be tempting.

It would be tempting indeed! I’m so glad you enjoyed the story and it left you wondering. Success! =)

That would be a difficult decision especially if someone you loved died and you wanted to see them again. A very thought-provoking story.

Thank you, Susan! It would be a tough decision because of all the possible variables and the limited amount of time to choose. Thanks for commenting. =)
