Thursday Doors: Happy Door

The photo was taken by my son, Nathan!

This red door lives in Kowloon Tong. The neighborhood it resides in was and is home to some of Hong Kong’s most famous celebrities. Well-known martial artist and movie star, Bruce Lee, lived there. Currently, Chow Yun Fat and Jackie Chan live in this area.

The color of this door is special. Red is a lucky color in Chinese culture. At festivals, lanterns that decorate the streets are often red. The most common color is red for Lai See packets, that are filled with money and given as gifts during Chinese New Year. The color red denotes happiness and good fortune. A red door implies a happy home inside. Doors are often painted with a fresh coat of red just before Chinese New Year to invite good luck and happiness.

Behind every happy (red) door is a happy home!
