Bright Lights

Her mama cried, and her daddy begged her to stay, but she was talented.

That’s what the man said. “I can make you famous.”  He met her at the bus station.

Excited, she asked, “When do we start?”

The man said, “I want to show you the bright lights of the city first.”  She squealed in delight.  The sights were exotic, the food delicious.

Strolling the streets with his arm around her shoulders, she stumbled.  Fighting to keep her eyes open, the lights began to blur.

Before falling into darkness, she heard the man say, “Now, it’s time to work.”
