Thursday Doors: Ponte Vecchio Bridge

The following photos are my contribution to Thursday Doors, a door-lovers group hosted by Norm Frampton.

Here’s another door post inspired by my trip to Italy in January.  While strolling through the Uffizi Museum in Florence, my family and I spotted, out a second story window, the famous Ponte Vecchio bridge.  A medieval stone covered bridge that spans the Arno River.  It’s believed the bridge was first constructed during Roman times.

“Among the four old bridges that span the river, the Ponte Vecchio, that bridge which is covered with the shops of jewelers and goldsmiths, is a most enchanting feature in the scene. The space of one house, in the center, being left open, the view beyond, is shown as in a frame; and that precious glimpse of sky, and water, and rich buildings, shining so quietly among the huddled roofs and gables on the bridge, is exquisite”. – Charles Dickens

After leaving the Uffizi, we made our way to the bridge.  Here are a few treasures we captured along the way and on the bridge itself.

Love the hinges on the shutters and door to a stall on the bridge, not yet open for the evening crowd.

As I think about my time in Italy, my thoughts and prayers are with the people there during this difficult and scary time.

Thank you for stopping by.  I hope you have a safe and happy weekend.

  2. Lovely photos; brought back memories. I’d really liked a gelateria which stood right at the end of Ponte Vecchio. I was hoping to see that one here, but maybe it is gone by now.

    1. I’m so glad the photos brought back happy memories. I don’t recall a gelateria at the end of the bridge, but that doesn’t mean anything. There was so much to take in and I could have missed it. =)

  4. Oh my oh my, such magic! ❤ I mean, I know this light, but it's always magical to see it in photos. Not to mention the marvellous doors. We are not much scared, we just hope it goes back to normalcy and media stop wreaking panic.
