Thursday Doors: Plaza del Ayuntamiento

The Plaza del Ayuntamiento is considered downtown Alicante.  On our regular walks, during our two week stay in September, we passed through the plaza on our way to our accommodations from Postiguet Beach.  We entered through this archway with the clock tower watching over the plaza.

The Alicante City Hall is located in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. The Hall, with 165-foot high towers at both ends of the building, has a Baroque architecture and was designed by the architect Lorenzo Chápuli in the 18th century.  There are often celebrations and concerts held in the open square in front of the City Hall.

I’d like to visit there, we almost went in 2020 before lockdown but went to Valencia instead.

    1. I’ve only passed through Valencia from the train station to the airport, but it looks like a nice city to visit another time. I hope you get the chance to visit Alicante! 🙂

Enjoy seeing your travel photos! I really find the blac ironwork against the cream-colored stone very eye-appealing.

  6. I recently learned that the term “dead as a doornail” comes from the nails seen in the wonderful door you photographed: the ends of the nails are hammered down to the smooth nubs and can never be used again for any other purpose… Who knew?
