There have been studies done that coastal environments can make us happy, help us feel relaxed. I recently read an article in BBC that talks about the healing power of living near or visiting the water. The article is entitled, “The Surprising Benefits of Blue Spaces” if you are interested in reading it.
“Ten years after researchers first found that ‘blue spaces’ could be good for us, the concept is proving to be a powerful, practical tool for mental health.”

Blue spaces – whether lakes, rivers, or coastal areas – can improve our mental health! I guess it’s not a new thought, but a nice reminder. Over the years, I have at one time or another lived near the water. I don’t right now, and long for it. With that thought in mind, I decided to feature blue doors this week for my Thursday Doors post. In the Fall of last year, my husband and I romped around Catania, Sicily, in Italy but I neglected to post the doors I discovered there. Here are the blue ones that I found. 😊

Thank you for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed the doors. I also hope you have a happy, relaxing, blue-space-kind of weekend!

Gorgeous doors! I’m not a fan of the colour blue when it comes to decorating rooms but I absolutely love living near the sea and seeing it every day from my apartment. I find it’s very relaxing.

Those are beautiful doors, Brenda, I love that low light photo, and I appreciate the close up of the knocker. I grew up around rivers, and for many years, before I got to the office for work, I stopped at a park along the Connecticut River here in Hartford. I always found that that helped get me in a better mood for the day.

Thanks, Dan, for the nice comments. I do love finding unusual door knockers. Visiting a park along the river sounds like a great way to start the day!

It was the best part of my day. Even when it was raining, and I just sat in my car for a few minutes.

Yes, an expanse of blue reminds us that there is more to life that just the walls and doors than surround us.

Thanks so much, Suzette! Blue doors seem to be somewhat rare, especially for these type doors. But, that makes it all the more fun when you find one. 🙂

Thanks, Brenda for more fabulous photos and thanks for putting me onto that research about the calming effects of blue water. I live right near the beach but don’t always get there, especially when I’m not well but perhaps that’s just the very time I need to get there most.
Best wishes,
Rowena

Hi Rowena. Yes, I would agree. If you can, a stroll along the beach might lift your spirits which can effect your health in a positive way. I know it’s difficult to get out when you don’t feel well. It does take effort and intention. I hope you feel better over-all and can enjoy some fresh air and blue space soon. 🙂
