This post is my contribution to Thursday Doors, a weekly door-lover’s group hosted by Dan Antion over at No Facilities.
~~
At the end of last year, I started a series of posts featuring doors I discovered in Catania, Sicily. Catania is an ancient port city on the east coast of Sicily in Italy by the Ionian Sea. Mount Etna sits in the background. In the Fall of 2021, my husband and I romped around the maze of streets with markets, large piazzas, grand buildings, palaces, and churches. Many of the buildings were built with volcanic stone from Etna.
For the last couple of weeks, I featured Tenerife in Spain, but for the next few weeks I will again feature Catania, Sicily. For this week, I hope you enjoy some amazing archways that seem to be around almost every corner.

Thank you for stopping by! More doors from Catania on the way next week.
If you would like to see the first two posts from Catania, visit here and here.

Stay safe, stay well!

Lovely archways. I wonder if some of those archways were once gates to protect the city’s inhabitants long ago.

Thanks, Suzette! 🙂 I imagine some of them were. I love wandering around ancient cities and imagining what it would be like in the past.

Me too. It’s one of my favorite shots with a garden or an intriguing scene through the archway. Thanks for commenting, Marian! 🙂

Wow, Brenda! These arches are incredible and thanks for pointing out the use of the volcanic stone from Mt Etna. Living in Australia, it sounds like something out of mythology.
Best wishes,
Rowena

You’re welcome, Brenda. They also provided me with a much needed outlet as I’ve been having some breathing issues and staying home a lot and I appreciated the trip to Italy.
