Here is my contribution to Thursday Doors, a weekly door-lover’s group hosted by Dan Antion over at No Facilities.
~~
For this week’s door post, I’ll be featuring doors I discovered on the grounds of the Old Slaughterhouse (Matadero) in Seville, Spain. This compound, that my husband and I found by accident, was an interesting site to explore. It is the grounds of the old municipal slaughterhouse and cattle market. In 1916, the buildings were completed. In 1921, the slaughterhouse was functional. In 1999, the slaughterhouse and market closed.
Now, the buildings are being used by a private school, a music conservatory, and an adult education center. The buildings are certainly unique, for me anyways. I hope you enjoy!

Thank you for stopping by! I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

What wonderful buildings, doors and gates, Brenda. It’s hard to believe they went to so much trouble to build a slaughterhouse and animal market, but I’m glad they did. This is the perfect style of building to serve its new purpose. Thanks for sharing this!

It certainly is quite ornate for that, but you are right it is the perfect place for the purpose it now serves. The grounds have a nice feel about them. 🙂 Thanks, Dan, for your kind comments.

I’m with Dan – it’s hard to imagine those lovely buildings as a slaughterhouse.

It’s true, especially walking through I couldn’t imagine. But, it does have a nice atmosphere with the schools there. Thanks, Jan, for visiting! 🙂

That second door reminds me of a building that we saw in St. Augustine, Florida last week. It has a strong Spanish influence.
