Thursday Doors:  The Courtyard of the Maidens, Royal Alcázar of Seville

Here is my contribution to Thursday Doors, a weekly door-lover’s group hosted by Dan Antion over at No Facilities.

~~

For my last Thursday Doors post, I introduced the Royal Alcázar of Seville (Reales Alcázares de Sevilla).  This week, I’m featuring the famous Courtyard of the Maidens or Patio de las Doncellas.  This courtyard is the best-known space inside the Royal Alcázar.

In the center of the courtyard is a large rectangular reflecting pool with sunken gardens on either side.

The courtyard displays a mix of architectural styles.  It is surrounded by polylobed arches, in the form of Almohad art, supported by marble columns in the Corinthian style.

And, here are some amazing ancient doors!

Thank you for stopping by!  I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Wow! What a beautiful courtyard, Brenda. Wouldn’t it be lovely to just sit out there on an afternoon? The building is magnificent. I love the detail carvings around the doors and the doors themselves are amazing. It looks like one of the big doors has a little door in it. That’s cool.

    1. I thought the same thing! Just to sit awhile and think, enjoying the beauty. But, there weren’t any available seats. 🙂 Good eye on the small door. I did not notice that. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend, Dan!

    1. It’s true. The Palace has so many nooks and crannies and beautiful things to see. It would take a number of visits to see them all. Thanks, Ann, for stopping by! 🙂

I’m a bit behind on returning visits so my apologies. What a beautiful place! I’m convinced courtyards need to make a comeback 😊
