Thursday Doors: Inside the Royal Alcázar of Seville

Here is my contribution to Thursday Doors, a weekly door-lover’s group hosted by Dan Antion over at No Facilities.

~~

This will be my last week to feature the Royal Alcázar, located in the heart of Seville, the oldest royal palace in Europe that is still in use today.  It dates back to the 11th century, and its architecture combines Islamic, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Romantic elements.

Patio del Crucero (Courtyard of the Crossing)

This little courtyard is called the Patio de las Muñecas (Courtyard of the Dolls).  It is believed that this was a domestic courtyard for the Queen’s own use.

This section of the Alcázar was built in the Mudéjar architectural style which features the frequent use of horseshoe arches, also called Moorish arches.

This photo was taken just outside the Salón de Embajadores (Hall of Ambassadors).

The amazing dome inside the Hall of Ambassadors was built by Diego Ruiz in 1427.

There is so much more to see inside the Royal Alcázar.  I saw only a fraction.  It certainly warrants another visit sometime in the future.  I hope you enjoyed just a little peek.

If you’d like to see my other door posts from the Alcázar of Seville, click on one of these; Royal Alcázar of Seville, the Courtyard of the Maidens, or the Gardens.

Thank you for stopping by!  I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

I love the doors, the arches and I really love the tiled surfaces. It’s absolutely amazing that this was built over 1,000 years ago.

Breathtakingly beautiful. The one of the ceiling looks like the eye of God looking down.
