Portimão is a coastal town in southern Portugal. Recently, my husband and I spent one month there, enjoying breezy walks along the coast and exploring the historic parts of the town. For the next few weeks, I’ll be featuring doors and beautiful structures I discovered there.

We flew into Porto in the north of Portugal and took a train through Lisbon’s Gare do Oriente station and on to Portimão in the south.
This is the spectacular Gare do Oriente (Lisbon) station. The photo is not so clear because I took it as we buzzed through the station.

Here’s a nighttime photo of the out of the way Tunes Train Station where we transferred trains, hauling way too much luggage off and back on the train.

These discoveries were made on our first day in Portimão on an early evening walk along the main road, Avenida Tomás Cabreira, that overlooks the ocean.

Thank you for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed a little peek at Portimão.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

I’m so glad you enjoyed Porto and Lisbon. We are on the other end. It is getting a little chilly, but we are enjoying our time here. Thanks, Teresa, for stopping by. 🙂

Portimão is beautiful, Brenda, and any picture of a train station makes me smile. I look forward to exploring through you guys.

I knew you’d like the train stations. Sometimes I do miss driving, but I enjoy the bus and train systems in the countries we’ve lived in or visited…trains especially. Portimão is quite exceptional for sure. Thanks for commenting, Dan! 🙂

I love trains. I wish we had better coverage in the U.S.

I have to ask if the train station is open-air? I mean it would make sense with all their beautiful weather. Definitely impressive structure regardless 🙂

It really was and in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night. A fun find. Thanks, Jan! 🙂

How funny that you should visit me in Toulouse! My normal residence is in Tavira, at the other end of the Algarve to Portimao. I’ve not spent a lot of time there, but visited a time or two. How did you come to choose it? I’ll have to come back next week for more, won’t I?

We wanted to check out Portugal for the possibility of retiring here and were told that the Algarve was a good place to start. 🙂 I look forward to your visits.

I can’t say anything against it, because I’ve loved the place for 20 years. We retired here 5 years ago. I would only say that prices are rising steeply, but I expect your pension would go much further here than in the States.

It’s good to hear that you love it, Jo. Living here would certainly be cheaper for us than in the States, especially with medical costs. We’ve lived 30+ years outside the US, so to go back now to retire would be … tricky. 🙂

Very! But you have a whole world to choose from. I had a glance and it looks like you’ve seen one or two places. Smiling…

Such a beautiful beach! And the Lisbon train station is spectacular. I really like the door on the blue tile wall too. (K)

The shape of the door on the blue building is quite striking. It’s at the beginning of our evening walk. I do wish I had the opportunity to capture more of the Lisbon train station, but we buzzed through. Maybe another trip. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by and for the nice comments!
