Here is my contribution to the weekly Thursday Doors challenge hosted by Dan Antion over at No Facilities blog.
~~
This past winter, my husband and I took an overnight train from Rome to Reggio di Calabria in southern Italy. Reggio is the place in Italy where my husband’s great-grandfather grew up until he was in his twenties when he journeyed to the United States with his young bride and first son. It was meaningful to my husband to see this part of the world.

I’ll start our time in Reggio by featuring the neo-Romanesque cathedral in the center of the city. Over the centuries, the church has been damaged and repaired numerous times after earthquakes and wars, the most recent time being a 1908 earthquake.

Thank you for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed a little peek of Reggio di Calabria!

Thanks for sharing these photos, Brenda. That cathedral is beautiful. They did a wonderful job repairing it and maintaining it over the years.

You’re welcome. 🙂 I love when that happens and buildings are restored and history is maintained.

Italy is certainly an interesting place to visit and well worth the trip. From north to south, it’s very different. Reggio was not my favorite, but still intriguing. I think because it is covered in a fine layer of black soot from Mt. Etna across the strait in Catania, Sicily. Etna does burp a lot! 🙂

How wonderful to visit the place your husband’s family is from! I really like the white and gold of this cathedral. It gives it a lightness, which is complemented by the curves. The windows are also beautiful and complement the doors. (K)
