Thursday Doors: Toulouse, France

Here is my contribution to the weekly Thursday Doors challenge hosted by Dan Antion over at No Facilities blog.

~~

For the next couple of weeks, I will be featuring photos of the city of Toulouse taken on a trip my husband and I took there this summer in July.

Toulouse is the fourth-largest city in France after Paris, Marseille, and Lyon, with a little over 500,000 inhabitants. The city is located in southern France along the Garonne river, ninety-three miles from the Mediterranean Sea. It is a very walkable city with a wonderful public transportation system. I like that since I no longer drive.

Toulouse has gorgeous brick buildings made of clay and sand from the Garonne River. The city’s unique architecture made of the pinkish terracotta brick has given Toulouse the nickname “La Ville Rose” (The Pink City).

Thank you for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed a little peek at Toulouse, the pink city. More to come next week.

I love those pink/red brick Buildings and the doors are amazing. We drove past Toulouse but time did not permit us to stop and look around. Now I see what I missed. Thanks for the fab photos.

    1. Oh, I just looked that up. I missed the red man (The Ring Fisher), but I did get a photo with a red man in it without realizing its significance. Maybe I’ll add the photo next week. 🙂 Thank you for bringing it to my attention. haha. If I visit again, I have to go on a treasure hunt for red men. Lovely to see you, Jo!

These are wonderful doors, Brenda. I love the details in the brick work. The featured photo, with the awnings and the balcony is fabulous. I look forward to seeing more from here.

    1. I knew you would enjoy the brick work, Dan. I don’t see myself (and my husband) settling down in a bigger city at the end of the day, but I do enjoy visiting awhile and finding these treasures. Thanks so much for your kind comments as always! 🙂

Such beautiful doors, Brenda. I’ve been to Paris and Lyon but they’re nothing like Toulose. I like red brick buildings. The colorful doors stand out against them. Thank you for sharing.

All the attention to details in the architecture is so wonderful. That blue door is my favorite I think–such vibrant color. (K)

    1. It is truly stunning how much effort and detail has been put into a lot of buildings in Europe. A blue door is certainly a treasure to find. Thanks so much for commenting!
