This is my contribution to the weekly Thursday Doors challenge, hosted by Dan Antion over at No Facilities blog.
~~
For the third week, I am featuring Lyon, a city in east-central France, from a visit there this past June. This week, like last, we will be walking through Vieux-Lyon, the Old Town of Lyon, near the River Saône.

My husband and my favorite thing to do when visiting a new city is to just romp around. We immensely enjoyed walking the cobblestone streets and alleyways of Old Town and finding hidden gems.

Guignol, a famous puppet in French history, hails from Lyon.

“Guignol is deeply intertwined with the silk industry and the working class of Lyon. Created by Laurent Mourguet in 1808, Guignol quickly became a symbol of the silk workers’ struggle for justice and social change. Mourguet’s puppet shows addressed current issues and mocked the powerful, making Guignol a beloved figure among the working class. Today, Guignol remains a cultural icon.” (Guignol Theatre)

I hope you enjoyed another little look around Lyon. If you would like to see the first two posts featuring Lyon, see here and here. More to come next week!

It is the best way, isn’t it? What a treat when you turn the corner and discover a beautiful cathedral or an amazing open square or quaint shops and such. 🙂 Thanks, Darlene, for the visit!

Thank you for the excellent information on Laurent Mourguet’s Guignol. Great share.
