“They aren’t very smart. Why do we watch them?”
“We’ve been over that …”
“And they’re so oddly shaped.”
“Why do you care?”
The curtains drop. The couple walk away from the window.
“I don’t know,” he says peeking from the outside inside. “Why must we look like this?”
“Again, as the commander said, disguised as a quail no one notices us. And, the top bit covers our antennae. With the data we’ve collected these many years and sent back to the ship, the earth will soon be ours. Then, we can shed the beak and these feathers.”

“Friday Fictioneers” is a weekly challenge hosted by Rochelle Wisoff Fields. The challenge is to write a story using only 100 words in response to a photo prompt. This week’s photo was taken by Jean L. Hays. It has been a lot of fun to join in with this fantastic and encouraging group of writers! For more stories, visit HERE.
they shouldn’t underestimate humans. for all you know, they’re watching them and they’re making fun of their outfit, too. 🙂

Very true. The Quail is certainly a “funny” looking bird and causes our imagination to run wild. =)

I loved the twist at the end! At first I assumed humans were discussing the birds, but it looks like the birds have something in store for us.

I’m going to start worrying about all these birds! Will be interesting to see if the humans ever realise what’s going on…
